EME Alumni Reunion 2008

4th EME Alumni Reunion March 29, 2008

Like the previous reunion, the two main aims of the reunion were :

1. Giving a chance to EME Alumni to get together with fellow alumni
2. Fund raising for the scholarship fund

For fund raising purposes, the registration fee was kept at Rs. 500. Also T-shirts bearing the NUST emblem were placed for sale. Like the registration fee, the proceeds from the sales of the T-shirts also went to the scholarship fund.

From 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM was the informal interaction session. In the ante-room just the behind the auditorium, the students of the graduating degree i.e. DE-26 talked to the alumni about job prospects and career advice over tea.

Then at 7:30 the formal ceremony began. Students from DE-1 toDE-25 were there. However, notably lesser alumni attended the reunion this year. The majority of the attendees were from DE-23 to DE-25.

First of all Afnan Ahmed gave a presentation highlighting the activities of the alumni association in the previous year, the main point being that in the session Oct-Nov 07, 7 students were awarded scholarship which covered their tuition fee for the whole semester. Then alumni of DE-6 who is currently Vice Chairman PTCL and an ex-Company Commander; Col. Amir Azam Qazi; who is currently Deputy Commandant 501 Workshop, addressed the audience.

Then Brig. AbdulGhafoor, who is currently Dean as well as Deputy Commandant of EME College these days, gave a detailed account of the progress being made by the college in recent years, in terms of academics and the ongoing collaborations being chalked out with the industry and international Universities. Also, since many new constructions have been made in the college, he mentioned them as well. This account was coupled with a presentation. Then the commandant gave shields to the Alumni Association general body members.

Next, the dinner was arranged in the lawn behind the auditorium. The dinner was the best opportunity for everyone to socialize. This is what made the dinner the best part of the reunion.

After dinner, SPAL (Society for the Promotion of Arts and Literature) had arranged a musical evening. A new band called “areiz” performed. This reminded us all of the various musical evenings, functions and our respective convocation ceremonies that all of us had attended in the very same auditorium. The alumni reunion ended at around 10:00 PM.
